I don't want to talk about healthcare.
Or taxes, or fears, or scene politics.
I don't care that such-and-such can't let go of the past, or that such-and-such thinks my daddy is rich, or that such-and-such thinks they are more intelligent than everyone, or that such-and-such thinks he/she knows something about my life, hopes, and goals. Your jealousy and regret don't become you (nor does being bat-shit crazy.)
It's easy to forget that you don't know everything when you still don't know the things you don't know. Perhaps we should all sit down together and eat a slice of humble pie. I'll have one too.

It's all just preposterous.

Why am I so incredibly annoyed with people? It makes me feel sure that there are people equally as annoyed with me. Who gives a shit about the photo I posted today of some thing I did? How pretentious and obnoxious of me to think that people want to follow me in my progress as a photographer, as a person.

I literally talked myself into hating the internet today because of the dribble that people spew on it under the impression that they have some sort of exemption from accountability in real life. It's just a screen and the click of a button, and it's out of your control. How incredibly foreboding for our future as social beings.

My new favorite thing.

This is my new favorite thing. I stumbled across it... somehow. And God, does it rule.
So, admittedly, some of the lyrics this dude chooses come from reaaaaaaallly shit bands (Drop Dead Gorgeous? Really?) But somehow he makes those lyrics tangible as art, even if the writers of the lyrics didn't do them justice in the first place.
And some of the bands he picks kick ass. But that's not the point. It doesn't matter. This dude has serious talent.
I really love this. Check it out.

Do something good.

I know most of us are broke (myself included.) But here is an easy way to do a good thing. My sister is putting in a lot of time and effort to do something good in the world... cancer has taken some important people from all our lives and we need to stop it. Why not help her out with 5 bucks? Skip Starbucks today. You won't even miss it.

Really proud of you, Ellen.

Pilgrimage.

When you cremate someone and scatter their ashes, there isn't really a grave-site where you can go to reflect, mourn, or remember. The person becomes a part of the earth again. This is a nice thought, especially because then you know that the person you miss is all around you. They have become the earth you walk on and the air you breathe.
It's been 6 years since my mother died, and 6 years since we spread her ashes in her favorite places. In our little pet cemetery next to our house, into Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe, off the coast of Santa Clara where she grew up. The place that had the most impact on me, though was the Golden Gate bridge. We drove down the coast until we came upon the fort directly underneath the bridge, where the icy waves crash up onto big black boulders and the cold water evaporates in the warm air into fog that blankets it. I sat on those boulders, my dad and sister behind me, and held the last remains of my gorgeous, wonderful mother in a plastic bag on my lap. I knew that this was what she wanted, she wanted to be given back. And as I opened the bag to the sea, the wind caught her and she seemed to become a part of the fog that wrapped around us.
I've been back to San Francisco several times since, but I never visited that place again until yesterday.
The Golden Gate Bridge is a gorgeous place. Millions of people probably see it every day, and it probably means something different and special to each one of them. To me, it's a reminder, a headstone, a tribute, and a place of pilgrimage. It is the memory of a spectacular person who could not have been delivered back to any place less beautiful.
